Creature contact.

Several animal things to report from yesterday. First the chipmunk, pictured above. He's been walking along our window sill to our bird seed tray. I guess she (?) is taking food back to her young, or just storing it somewhere. She comes back and forth using the same route about 20x per hour. I caught her enjoying the sights from her window sill perch in the morning.

Then we walked up our mountain and came across a snake! My first (alive) snake sighting in the wild. I understand it was a big corn snake in it's shedding state - it's eyes were actually clouded over by the layer of skin to be shed. He couldn't see us, but you know he sensed our vibrations. He played dead for about 3 minutes, and we believed him. We wondered if the fresh lawnmower tracks ran right on top of him, but we figured that he must have been pretty lucky not to get shredded into bits. But, I guess once we stopped moving he figured it's safe to move along and it was very neat to see him slither away. ::Mental flashback: Simpsons Episode with Barry White saying "I love the sexy slither of a female snake." Be sure to read this in a deep tone::

At Miche's house we were hanging out in the garden when her neighbor came over. She looked really panicked and said that they've been hearing a bobcat behind their house. Apparently her husband saw it in their yard and it hissed at him. That was something! G tried to look for it, apparently he saw what may be a den. I'll keep everyone posted as to developments in bobcat sightings. That would be something!

Then on the way home after a talk we went to see by Jeremy Narby (Author of "Intelligence in Nature") we saw a baby skunk, a porcupine (?), and two deer.

A good day I'd say. I'm off to take a walk.
