
By popular demand, here is another caterpillar/moth update. At this time they have entered their pupa stage. Pictured above is a community of pupa and shed caterpillar bodies. This is pretty creepy. Not something I'd like to touch while hiking in dense woods. There are patches of these guys on many trees, sometimes in the hundreds.
Interestingly enough we did observe that some trees, i.e. witch hazel, have sprouted new leaves. Perhaps it will be easier for them to develop since they have plenty of sun, otherwise blocked by oak trees now bare. Also, we did notice that some maple trees had dead caterpillars on them, perhaps the Maple releases some sort of poison?
This is all quite interesting.
