Creative City: Street Stickers

I'm so thankful to be in NYC right now. I'm getting a chance to be exposed to so many beautiful and creative things. My faves lately have been the street stickers I find plastered everywhere. A sampling...

What I'm listening to tonight..

When in doubt, blog.

It's Friday night. I'm getting ready to "winter in the city"... that's right, I'm packing up my Catskills cabin and heading down to spend some time in NYC. I feel creatively hopeful that it will prove to be an opportunity for exposure to new and pretty things. But I also have a slight sense of fear that I'll get sucked into the 9-5 routine and suffocate creatively. But I'm going to set my intention for the former and breathe out the concerns about the latter. That's right. I'm going to breathe that out... reminds me of this video I just cracked up about:

But seriously, "even though I'm a little nervous about the trip, I totally love and accept myself!"... ha!

Here's what I'm listening to this week on obsessive repeat:

And here are some colorful logos that are inspiring me this week:

I just love how Pinterest feeds my eyes. If you'd like to follow my boards, visit my profile here: http://pinterest.com/simplepea/

Eyeball food on Pinterest.com

So you've probably heard about Pinterest by now. I saw an article on Mashable that quotes it as one of the top ten social networking sites. Quite a fast climb in it's short history. Check out a quick intro to it, if you're not familiar with how it works here: http://mashable.com/2011/12/26/pinterest-beginners-guide/.

Meanwhile, I just wanted to share how incredibly helpful I find this site to be in my daily life as a practicing designer/artist/human. It is filled to the brim with inspirations I would have to spend countless weeks on the internet to dig up on my own. It's like food for my eyes.

Get creative in the 'hood this weekend!

Just wanted to share two creative events coming up this weekend in our area. First, I rescheduled our usual art class @ the Old Stone House to this Friday at 7pm. We're going to have a special theme this week focused on making holiday cards. What a nice way to get in tune with the dear people you'll be sending your cards to than by actually making their cards from scratch. The second is a beautiful gathering at my yoga studio where I will lead a session of Art & Yoga during the Gift Of Wellness Event. Here are the details for both, hope to see you there!

Holiday Cards Craft Session @ The Old Stone House!
Friday, December 2nd at 7pm

Kick off the Holiday Season with a crafty spirit! Join us December 2nd @7pm for a special edition of the Art Journal Workshop focused on making holiday cards. We'll have all the supplies you need, but feel free to bring your own too! Adults and children are welcome as long as parents accompany their little ones. First timers come free! More event details on my facebook page. Drop me a line if you'd like to come at design(at)simplepea.com.

“The Gift of Wellness” @ Sat Nam Yoga Spa
Saturday, December 3rd at 12:30pm

Each year, Marilyn Valant opens the doors of her Sat Nam Yoga Studio to the community and local merchants, craftsmen and healers, to come together to prepare for the holiday season. You can purchase local, hand crafted gifts, learn about self care techniques to help you deal with the season, and of course meet wonderful people and eat delicious food. This year I will also be presenting an Art & Yoga segment during the event. Hope you can make it! The event begins at 12:30pm. Read more info at: http://www.satnamyogaspa.com/events.html

Open Eyes: Latest Inspo Finds

Lately I've been finding some neat inspirations all around me. The other day I had to take a young friend to urgent care and found these neat paintings on the wall. Love this style... I'm going to try to play with this technique in my art journal... and maybe one day a canvas.

More visual yummies

This is really pretty. I love those colors. Might need to get me some "raspberry" colors. I'm also a big fan of pink and orange, as Donna pointed out. Plus, I'm just relating to the whole "passion" concept. It's the space I'm in, for sure.

Latest Inspo...

I'm loving this right now...

I came across it through a series of coincidences, that in hindsight don't feel like that at all. It's really opening me up to a whole new way of journaling, incorporating art as part of the process.
It also is having an effect on my Sketchbook Project book, since it has finally helped me break through the color barrier!

Thank you Journal Girl!
