Art on the go

Hi. It's me. I'm in NYC. Spending lots of time on the subway. So art got portable.I'm continuing to doodle away on my Sketch Book Project. It's due soon. I have to send it back to the Brooklyn Art Library next week. It's going to be hard to part with my little travel companion. Anywhere I am, I am, and I art.

What's happening this week? Well, I started my 9-5 office non-telecommuting thing that I'm doing for the next several weeks/months. It's been an interesting transition. I'm continuing to feel dedicated to using this time in the city to enhance my artsiness. I saw an old friend will be part of an art show next week. Intending on hitting that after work since it's close. 

And here's what's happening right this moment: I'm waiting for a very long upload to finish for something on Word Press. I'm actually trying to import a whole humongous blog. OY. It's not working. I think I'll have to stop here and pick it back up on Monday.

Art between a rock and a hard place

I'm working on a new project today - an art journal spread. I started with quite a bit of abandon. I had a vision for what I was going for, but began to hate what I was creating shortly into the endeavor. So there I was hating it, but just kept on going. And going. And at some point I came across a quote that really inspired me and I decided to work it into the page. Before I knew it the piece started looking ok. And now I actually really like it. But now I'm scared to go any further because I don't want to mess it up. So I'm stuck between hating my work and being afraid of hating it. Which one is the rock and which the hard place?

This little guy just landed on my journal  page as I was getting ready to take the pictures.

I dreamed of my dog last night

I love it when she comes to visit me at night... I recalled her soft, but never slobbery tongue. I remember her very huggable body. Sure do miss the Mapsel-hound. Though something about the dream told me that she was ready for me to let her go. I'm not sure... but we were very glad to see one another. It's incredible to remember the painful goodbye, I can't even believe how such pain could be possible.. I can't believe we survived it. And yet, there are people who will say she was only a dog. Here's to all the "only-a-dogs" out there... and to all the people who love them more than some humans!

Kitchen Stuff I want

I've decided to set aside a special blog entry to keep track of the kitchen stuff I want. I generally don't believe in acquiring millions of gadgets in the kitchen, or otherwise, but lately certain goodies have been crossing my mind as absolute necessities. Here's what I've got on the list so far, in no particular order:

• Mandoline slicing tool: I'm still trying to figure out which brand would suit me best, but I've seen images of really cool salads done by doing creative cutting of veggies. It seems like it would save a lot of time and add a lot of creativity to any vegetarian dish.
  
• Stainless steel pots: Currently I'm torn between All clad (which is US made and very expensive), and CuisinArt (which was the original stainless steel pot recommended to me, is really great and affordable, but made in China).. decissions, decissions...
• Professional grade blender: I've been thinking about doing Vita Mix as it has the quality seek, but the price is a bit beyond the quick purchase category. Waring Commercial also crossed my radar as a high quality product, but it's twice the price... ouch.
• Good quality knives: so far the brand that has popped up on my radar time and time again has been Henckels.
  
• Salad spinner: it tends to take up space in the kitchen, but it is so handy! I'm not sure what brand would be best there.. I'll have to research it.

Pride, happinesss and a feeling of freedom!

At last, I've been able to consolidate a private loan from a really nasty lender. I'm so glad to be free of their thievery! I still owe the money, but I feel better about the lender it is with now. And it felt damn sweet to see those zeros on my bill page!

Spring's a-comin'

I'm so excited that it's warm(ish) in NYC. And it's the middle of March - yay! This is all really exciting because spring is my favorite time of year.... that and fall. Then summer... then winter... as my least fave, but not hated. I'm especially excited that we turned back the clocks this past weekend. That means that there was actually light when I left work yesterday. To celebrate, I took a long walk over to the 34th st station. I used my new pedometer to measure how many steps that took, but it malfunctioned and only counted 5. Yeah...

I hope I can take another walk today.

Nephew time

This weekend I got to spend a little bit of time with my tiny nephew Rysio. You can see pictures in the photo gallery... but trust me that they do him no justice! It's so tought to live that far away from him!
